J unk mail is annoying but unfortunately theres no real way around it. As soon as your email account is in the public domain, you are probably going to start getting spam and junk emails.

Whats the best way to avoid junk mail? Well there’s not a lot you can do but it’s always a good idea to not sign up to anything with your important email account, instead, use an old, obsolete email account or an email account specifically for signing up to free offers & things like that as these are often the places you are most likely to have your email sold or spread around the internet to other marketers and advertisers.

So lets say you are starting to get some junk email, the first thing to do is to have a look at the email address it is coming from, and not just the name so you might have to actually click or hover over the senders name or address to find it and you will probably find that a lot of them are coming from a bunch of different addresses and random accounts which does make it difficult because whilst you can block that individual email account, you probably wont receive another one from that account again which kinda makes it pointless unless you have a lot of time on your hands.

In my personal situation recently, i noticed that the junk mail i was getting was from one particular domain suffix .icu and because they were all coming from that domain suffix, i could easily block everything coming from .icu but the only reason i could do that was because i knew that i never get or likely will get mail from that domain suffix. You need to keep in mind that this would not work on a .co.nz or a more common domain that you DO intend to be receiving mail from so what worked in this case for me, may not work for you.

So with that in mind, lets assume the same thing is happening with you and you want to block all mail from a particular domain suffix or even an individual email account as blocking both is done exactly the same way so this trick works for two main scenarios which are…

1. Emails coming from one particular uncommon domain suffix
2. Emails constantly coming from the same address

You will have received from us an instructions sheet for your email accounts and how to set them up and access them from a web browser. If you do not have your information sheet or have lost it, just get in touch with us and we can provide you with a copy with all your email instructions and settings.

1. The first thing to do is login to your Zimbra account via your favourite web browser. Once you are logged in, look at the top left navigation menu for the tab called “Preferences” and click on it.

2. Select “Mail” from the left sidebar navigation and scroll down till you see the header “Spam Mail Options”

3. You will see a box on the left side that says “Block messages from” and another box on the right that says “Allow messages from” for our purposes, we want to focus on the box on the left side that says “Block messages from”

4. This box is where you can type in the email address of the person you wish to block. You can do this by entering in their full email address and then click “Add” You should see that address now appear in the box below meaning you have successfully added an email address to block messages from that particular email account.

5. Make sure you save your changes. Scroll back up to the top and in the top left you will see a Save button. Click Save to save the changes you just made.

NOTE: You should only block messages from an entire domain suffix if you are 100% sure that you are not wanting ANY emails from ANY email account that could use that suffix as these blocks will remain in place until you remove them.

And that’s it. So now you can have a little bit more control over your junk email and hopefully make your inbox a little less cluttered every morning when you go to check your emails. Don’t forget to check your junk folder regularly anyway in case some important mail has been moved there accidentally.
