What is Google Search Console?

Google Search Console is one of the things sitting out of sight that most people don’t know about and in all honesty, unless you’re a web developer, there’s probably not many reasons why you would know about it.

That’s not to say it isn’t important though and Google Search Console is actually one of a number of many things that make a website perform well. I always say its never one or two things that will make a difference but making sure that lots of little things are done correctly and Google Search Console is one of these things.

So what is Google Search Console?

In a nutshell, it’s like a filing cabinet for Google’s search engine. It’s where Google lets web developers register a domain, verify its existence and essentially tell Google who it is, where it is and controls how and what we want Google to index on its search engine.

With terms such as “crawling” “robots” “sitemaps” & “bots” its hardly the fun or glamorous side of web development, but its very important to have your website properly setup in Google Search Console as it not only provides essential services for your website but it also provides useful and valuable information on website and page performance as well as helping us understand the search terms and keyword phrases people are using to find your website.

Just because you are not running ads or a marketing campaign right now, having the information ready when you do want to, will certainly be useful...

Do i need Google Search Console?

It would be silly to not register your website on Google Search Console and we would never build a website and not register it. The benefits are enormous and the insights it provides are extremely valuable if you are wanting to improve your search rankings and website performance over time.

When Google Search Console is used in addition to Google Analytics and Google My Business, the information you have can make all the difference to online marketing campaigns providing information around user demographics, locations, search terms, search rankings, entry and exit pages, page speed and much more.

Of course, you still need to actually compile all this data and understand it to make sense of what it all means but it makes sense to set these services up as early as possible in your website project so you can capture this data as early as possible as the more information you have the better decisions you are able to make.

Just because you are not running ads or a marketing campaign right now, having the information ready when you do want to, will certainly be useful.
